From the heart

I must say this season when online fellowships and online discipleship are the order of the day, I have found ministry very exposed, very vulnerable and seen very many gaps. As a disclaimer for this post, I would love to say that I am not perfect and it is not perfection that I allude to, just basic appropriateness and excellence in ministry.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:21 ESV

I realize that the body of Christ is of importance to me and my heart and mind is consumed with the wellness of the body of Christ. Issues arise around;

  • Commitment – A few necessary questions arise. Is your heart in agreement? Is your participation in anyway coerced or is it deliberate? Is it a delight or a burden? What is your personal commitment cost to what you do?
  • Content & delivery – Here as well questions arise. Are you conversant with the content in this case the bible? Are you constantly reading and memorising scripture? What is your target group? Would you be interested with your presentation if you were your target group? Do you check how others deliver? What would you want to do differently from others?
  • Continuity – Perpetuation of the word of God is certain because the Holy spirit is in charge and thus our feeble structures are spared shame. That being the case, it is still important for us to think through the ministries God has given to us and think through passing on the baton. The questions arising would be, are you mentoring someone and helping them learn as you do what you do? From your experience do others desire to fill your position?

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
