Versatility

Life is a set of encounters in no particular order that need management and maneuver in course. Management and maneuver of the encounters in life determine our quality of life. Management and maneuver in these encounters are the sole indicator of versatility which can also be referred to as adaptability.

Christian versatility, though still management and maneuver of encounters in life, has a very different approach. It is hinged on the fear of God, humility and heavily relies on His love for all His children. The basic tenets of christian versatility are,

  • Living sacrifice
  • Humble service
  • Love in action
  • Prayer

Living sacrifice

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2 ESV

Our role, in a world that is constantly changing and adopting to new standards, is to set the standard. We can only achieve by being non conformist, having a renewed minds, discerning the will of God and participating in it. We have to take a firm stand, uphold virtue and shun vice.

Humble service

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

Phillipians 2:3 ESV

Service is a learning experience. Sons serve from love and not fear and as privilege rather than an obligation. Even then the kind of service we give should be filled with humility and not boasting. We should also remember to be humble, courteous and warm to all. The way we treat others reflects greatly on who we are and how far our relationship with Jesus has impacted us. Many times we forget we all belong to God, and so depending on different weights our service and humility varies. Let the fear of God constantly remind us that we need to be humble servants.

Love in action

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Romans 12 :9-10 ESV

Love is vainly used in many conversations and many times even when offered it is not genuine. Our mandate as children of God is to love, it is a choice. Love is seing gold in everyone and treating them as such. Honor is calling out the gold. Expressing in action and words what we see in them. Sadly honor culture is fading and visibly even among Christians. Cultivating honor begins with understanding that the other person is valuable to God, belongs to God as well and has the capacity to be a blessing to you. It is the culture of treating others as a Steward accountable to God. We surely can be better stewards.. Honor is love in action. It is acting on behalf of God, it is the place for a Steward.

Prayer

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.

James 5:17 ESV

Because God is unlimited, we are unlimited. We can manage and maneuver effectively with the help and direction of God. Versatility demands continous and fervent prayer. Stop complaining and start praying.

  1. I like how you elaborated on the the four basic tenets of Christianity. The verses that went along with them were also useful. May we strive to live like this everyday.
