From there Abraham journeyed toward the territory of the Negeb and lived between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar. And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife. Now Abimelech had not approached her. So he said, Lord, will you kill an innocent people? Did he not himself say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands I have done this. Then God said to him in the dream, Yes, I know that you have done this in the integrity of your heart, and it was I who kept you from sinning against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her. Now then, return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you shall live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.Genesis 20:1-7 (ESV)
A long story detailing the everyday mercies of God. As Abraham, Sarah and Abimelech we are prone to stumbling and destroying destinies around us. We sometimes do not understand what our small and seemingly harmless actions can result to but God understands so He keeps from stumbling. Many times we conclude that we are good on our own and can do enough good to please God, we are wrong. He keeps us in His good pleasure and His abundant love.
Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy,Jude 1:24 (ESV)
Only Christ can. He will keep you, He will keep me. I am relieved that someone who knows me better keeps me from stumbling. He has the interest of presenting me blameless before His glory with great joy. This only means;
- I don’t have to be afraid of stumbling.
- I can try as often as possible.
- I don’t have to carry the guilt of inability and inadequency .
- I will abound all the the time.
- I cannot boast in what I cannot do for my self, so I can only boast in my weakness.
Do you realise you are kept from stumbling? I pray that whatever season you are in, you discover His keeping.
